Media Appearances

Here are some appearances that myself and co-authors of The Freedom Model for Addictions have made in podcasts and other media.

I got to speak at a TEDx event in Tahoe in 2016, and it was scary. I had so many things to say, and struggled to whittle it down to the 18 minute time limit. The experience was great though, and actually helped me to finish The Freedom Model for Addictions book, as it forced me to come up with better ways of saying a few things. I had a powerpoint presentation of all the statistics, but had to choose between showing the slides or using the teleprompter system due to some technical limitations. I opted for teleprompter and then strayed from it – but the talk really resonated with people, and I continue to get great feedback on it.

Tom Woods is my personal favorite podcast host, he’s a great thinker and open-minded. I was so happy to be on his show. Here’s a link to the page for my episode, which can be downloaded in various ways, or you can watch the youtube version of it below:

Zach Rhoads is a guy who really “gets it” when it comes to social problems and helping people. I was lucky to appear on his Young Justice show and dive deep into the issues. Here’s a link to my episode with him on Blog Talk Radio. or listen to the embed below:

You can also search “young justice steven slate” on the Apple Podcasts app to find and download the episode directly to your phone. My co-author and founder of The Freedom Model Retreats, Mark Scheeren, had a great interview on Zach’s newer show The Social Exchange, link here. or find it on Apple Podcast by searching “social exchange Mark Scheeren.”

Steven Clyde just started this new liberty podcast, and he’s a great interviewer. He has a little youthful drug history himself, and The Freedom Model resonated with his experience. I really loved how the show went:

John Odermatt, host of Felony Friday, gave me a chance to dive deeper into some issues. I was very happy with how this appearance came out. I discuss the transformation from feeling in control to feeling out of control, and answer a question about genes and addiction, among other things. Check it out below, or at the Lions of Liberty website.

The Howie Carr show had Mark Scheeren and I on for an hourlong show about The Freedom Model for Addictions. We haven’t done too many interviews together, so this one was really exciting:

Monica Richardson has been fighting the good fight against the dangers of the recovery support group system for years now. She’s had me on her podcast several times. Here’s an appearance Mark Scheeren and I did together:
